The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has released it's response to the smart meter consultation, this includes:
  • Energy suppliers are responsible for installing a 'real time' standalone smart meter display device in their customers' homes.

  • Communications between smart meters and utility companies will be centrally coordinated.

  • All homes will have smart meters from their supplier by end of 2020. The government will provide £6 million to develop smart technology.
